My 'great' experience with Australia Post.

i've picked up a lot of packages from auspost. usually the process is, i walk in, give them my slip and id, or the email i received and my id, and i walk out with my package.

i recently had a large parcel that i redirected to my local auspost, using the "redirect this package" thing on the website.

it arrives, and i get an email saying it has arrived, and that i can use my auspost myPost card to collect it. "you little beauty" i think to myself, and after work, i head to the post office.

i get to the front of the queue, and say to the lady, i have a parcel to collect, and motion to hand her my myPost card. she looks down, but doesn't take it from me. she asks, "do you have a slip", and i say, "no but i have an email".

i try and show her the email, but she says "what kind of service?". I have no idea what she's talking about, so i say, "i dunno? i got an email saying i have a package to pick up, here" and try and show her again.

she asks, "well without the slip how do you know its here to be picked up? can i see your ID", and i say "i got an email saying i did, here's my myPost card".

she tells me she needs to see my ID. I point to the sign behind her that says "use your myPost card to pick up your package" and say "i want to use my mypost card".

she refuses to take it, and tells me if i dont have a slip she cant help me. I am getting angry by this point, but trying not to. i read out very loudly from the email "PLEASE COLLECT YOUR PACKAGE FROM BLAH, WHEN YOU COLLECT YOUR PACKAGE PLEASE PRESENT THIS EMAIL AND PROOF OF IDENTITY OR YOUR MYPOST CARD"

i'm a big guy and look a bit intimidating, and i'm worried they're going to ask me to leave after having raised my voice, and clearly acting irritated.

luckily though, she takes my mypost card and goes out the back and i can hear her swearing about me to someone else. she brings back my package and says "it would have helped to know what service you wanted".

this pissed me off even more and more loudly than i would have liked said "look, i just wanted my parcel, and i tried to give you everything you needed to find it"

i thanked her and took my package and left.

seriously, what the hell?
