Victoria: Daniel Andrews’ government quietly shelves Australia Day 2023 parade

I don't wish death on anyone, but it is really interesting seeing who objects to not celebrating Australia Day on the 26th January on Facebook. I think it's the one thing I can't resist debating people about - and the number of white people in their 50s and 60s who claim Australia Day has 'always' been on 26 January is astounding.

They really cannot cope with the idea that the support for changing the date is growing and that in 10 years, it is likely the majority would support changing the date. This is largely due to younger people being more aware of the issue and willing to change.

That said, my parents are in the 70s and more progressive than that, so it does take a special kind of person to be so inflexible and so selfish as to not see the merits in changing the date to something we can all celebrate.
