my thoughts as someone who's mom was falsley reported to CPS when i was a kid

I'm a mandated reporter. In our yearly training, we're told to report our concerns to DCF as a CYA-type maneuver. Even if we're not entirely sure whether it's worth reporting, we call it in. It's not our business to decide whether or not a social worker should be sent out. They can decide -- and if it's not warranted, then at least our concerns are documented in the event that another person reports something similar. When a pattern of concern over something shows up, they may send someone out. In Cassie's case, there may have been previous concerns logged in the past that didn't call for an investigation, but this was the one that tipped the scales.
