Modern pedagogy has proven that if a kid is in advanced classes and they’re having stress, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed, then a hiring a tutor will likely only increase these feelings. I understand why it seems bizarre- I was raised on the “study harder” approach.
Educational experts such as Thatcher, Specks, or even Wong would all say to put the child in a less difficult math class. I know we want to push students to achieve, but as with anything, there’s a proximal zone of achievement.
Further, with math in particular, the “rush” to achieve so much in math in the state of Oklahoma often leads to a dead end by 11th grade where a student who does achieve in all the highest math classes is only left with lower math classes to get their credits for graduation. It’s the case in Owasso, I believe.
And so, Moonhunter on the tall white mare, hiring a tutor will cost money, likely add stress for the student, and be all for naught in 5 years.
