Do you think that nerd-shaming is an actual issue that needs actual attention? Why/why not?

I believe that a alot of gamergate-members/supporters are afraid that they might have to share something what they consider "their's". I think they like themselves in the role of lonesome, edgy geek who noone really understands but is a genius if he or she just had a chance. That's why they are so pissed that games like "gone home" exist. I mean why not just say "I don't like it" and play the stuff they like? No. Somehow they want Gone Home to not be part of nerd/gaming-culture. They don't want voices like Polygon or Kotaku. Voices that speak out for a broader view of games and gaming. Voices that say: "Gaming is for everyone and beeing a "gamer" isn't hard.

Hello, felt like diving into a pool of sharks and replying to this one at the whole 'dem evil gamerz don't want to share'. Let me explain to you why people have such a knee-jerk reaction to things such as Gone Home or the way crappier is-that-even-a-game Depression Quest.

Let's imagine gaming is a restaurant that serve...I don't know, let's go with mexican food. Why mexican? No reason, just using it as an example. It serves all kind of food but it's all mexican food and people like it. Eventually some people get in, make a ruckus and demand the mexican restaurant to serve chinese food. Or maybe they're now the cooks or something. The point is, suddenly there is chinese food in the restaurant. And you know what? Some people do end up liking both and that is fine. The problem happen when suddenly those who like chinese food suddenly decide that this mexican restaurant is a horrible, horrible place for serving mexican food. Now they try to not only add more chinese food to the menu, but start changing it until it's nothing but chinese food.

In an ideal world, we'd have a menu with both mexican and chinese food and that would be all good. But instead, everything that is mexican food is having it's recipe changed to be more like chinese food because a small cabal of circlejerking assholes decided they really really hate mexican food. So what do people do when the mexican food, what they used to like, is gone? Well I suppose they have to leave and never come back. But obviously, nobody wants that because they came here for the mexican food in the first place.
