A new psychiatrist I'm seeing said something interesting to me about Trintellix and anxiety today.

I quickly increased my dose to 20 mg after being on 10 mg for a week, targeting anxiety.

I was quite anxious for the first 2 weeks (worse than normal). Now I am back to my normal baseline anxiety. I am hoping my anxiety will improve, but I am not hopeful.

There’s no evidence that 20 mg is effective for anxiety. In fact, a 2018/2019 meta analysis showed that Trintellix was no better than placebo at treating generalized anxiety disorder. However, the few studies assessing the effect of Trintellix on anxiety only went up to 10 mg. I’m assuming your psychiatrist is presuming 20 mg is effective for anxiety because there would be more serotonin reuptake inhibition and 5-HT1A antagonism at this dose than at 10 mg.

What I do like about Trintellix, however, is the minimal side effect profile. Besides some transient nausea, I no longer have the incessant hunger, worsening sadness, and brain fog I dealt with while on Lexapro.
