Newbie, was disclosed to and now doing my hw

There is no 0% risk. I got HSV1 on my genitals from someone who had a history or oral herpes and was asymptomatic (this means they had not had any outbreak for a very long time). Basically, HSV 1 "prefers" the mouth area and HSV 2 "prefers" the genitals but it doesn't mean they can't transfer elsewhere. It just is less likely.

My partner of 1 year still hasn't got it either orally or genitally and we no longer use any protection. I have had no outbreak in the time we have been together (yes I'm lucky like that). They've basically accepted that one day they'll probably get it because the more they're exposed to it (ie the longer we are together) the more chance of spreading.

So I'd continue looking up stats and other info on herpes. Get familiar with it and very importantly speak with that person. Thank them for telling you about it. And on your own, think about how you would feel about getting it.

Do you like this person? Would you be mad getting it? Is it worth the risk?

I can't tell you how to feel but I can tell you one thing: the worst thing about herpes is the stigma!!! The 1st outbreak for me was horrible and painful but really I also was mortified because I thought it was the end of casual dating for me (spoiler: it was not, I had many more flings and stuff, and only few people fled once I disclosed).

Good luck!
