NY Times article about gentrification, focusing on Raleigh - “The Neighborhood Is Mostly Black. The Home Buyers Are Mostly White.”

Especially not when in other cities in the south, the same house would cost at least $100 less, probably even lower, or in the Midwest where it would be even cheaper than that. And especially considering that the south only started getting expensive the last 10-15 years. Raleigh and several cities in the south are full of New Englanders and West Coasters who come here for cheaper housing, then turn right around and talk shit to the long time residents who don't like their cheap cities getting so expensive. For the new residents, it's half as expensive as home, but for older residents, it's twice as expensive as it was several years ago, but a lot of the new residents don't seem to understand or sympathize with the fact that they are the ones causing it. These are the same people who will complain about traffic in the area, again without realizing that the influx of New Englanders and West Coasters is what has caused the terrible traffic.
