Online Church

I'm still involved in various churches, volunteering or otherwise, despite not being a member in one anymore. As a result I know way more Christians than the average parishioner, who just stays closed in with his "church family".

Most assume I'm a devout believer, because I happen to be baptized and have no reservations, which seems to be alien especially to fundamentalists, but is actually something I learned in church from that guy named Jesus.

Sometimes when church officials try to assert control over others, invoke weird theology or purity culture (often extending to completely banning alcohol), I speak up. Especially in social work/missionary settings with non-Christians present this immediately gets me allies. Just by being there I make the typical fundamentalist evangelical look like being the crazy guy.

This is much more powerful than being just an edgy atheist making fun of everything. Especially when it's combined with being well versed in critical scholarship, bibliolatry evangelists never expect getting challenged that way.
