A patch being worn by fighter pilots of the Taiwanese Air Force

This is the US/EU centric view.

Facebook plays a different role in other (poorer) countries. People need to be educated and understand Facebook in other parts of the world. This is not defense of Facebook - they are just as horrible everywhere.

In many countries Facebook is the only way to get online, providing free internet to poor people who can't afford to buy it. In the Philippines Facebook is the dominant app and there are no alternatives. But you need to understand this is a country where a huge part of the population only has phones and have no access and never used a laptop or desktop. Facebook is used almost universally(except by the wealthy elite) in the Philippines, and is used to stay in touch with family members who are not close by.

Someone please develop an alternative to Facebook for those people, so they have a choice. Right now there is no alternative and FB is as common as email use in the US. For the masses who are poor, there is no way to get online except for Facebook and messenger. And all their family members and friends are on Facebook. We need to change that, but people need to understand how dominant FB is in other countries. Facebook use is only dying in the US and other first world countries.
