Some anecdotal evidence for hygiene:

My dad (German, in Germany) after an operation had to directly request the nurse wash her hands before handling his wounds / draw blood. He still got some preventable infections.

My ex from HK keeps panicking about the bad healthcare and low standards of hygiene in the UK whenever she has some health issue.

More anecdotal evidence about equality in higher education in Germany:

When I went to school and chose computer science as an electable (not sure if that's the right word), there were only two girls in class, soon just one. The teacher showered her with "women in STEM" pamphlets, but she wasn't interested in continuing. I went on to study CS and I think there were like 3 women in total, probably experiencing the old stereotype of "the odds are good but the goods are odd"...

Finally, I tend to match with female PhDs in online dating for some reason, and they tend to be not from here. I don't mind, but where are all the female German PhDs?

I know, the chancellor has a PhD, but technically she's not from "the west".
