The Police’s Tepid Response To The Capitol Breach Wasn’t An Aberration - Authorities are more than twice as likely to break up a left-wing protest than a right-wing protest, using force 51% of the time with the left compared to 34% of the time with right-wing protests.

There are a couple things to note here. One is that most right wing protests involved massive open carry demonstration. Police are less likely to use force when people are armed. So yeah, if more liberals were armed like y'all then they would have probably been treated more similarly in the past. I hate open carry personally, but it works in that situation.

As for the present, you should know that many rules changed in the wake of the Floyd protests. My agency issued dozens of new directives in response to public pressure and state and city council law changes. So when people asked why our response was so different now compared to the Floyd/BLM protests, it's because that's what people wanted. Why didn't we use gas against the right wing crowd to disperse them? Because we are literally not allowed to do that, because of the changes our community demanded when they supported the protests. It seems really hypocritical to me when I hear people say "if this was a BLM protest they would've been..." No, they wouldn't have. I can't tell you what happened in the capital, I'm not there, but in my major metropolitan city we don't take sides. On a personal level I think everyone who stormed the capital should be tried for sedition, Trump impeached and then charged, Cruz and Hawley removed along with all the others who fomented this madness. But we are now seriously limited in what we can do to disperse a crowd. And if we were outnumbered the way they were in the capital, there would be nothing we could do to stop them.
