Potential Convert

Yes it is a theological one and thank you! Though probably didnt expect a reply, I'm going to reply anyway (It just an explanation/rant so if you font want to read, you dont have to). Just a warning; Brevity is a lost issue with me concerning this subject, ;)

  • It is the Theology that has drawn me. As a person who likes to discuss Theology with others, one of the biggest things that hindered me from the RC was papal primacy. Its not that papal primacy wasn't appealing to me, its just by looking through history and discussions with Orthodox and Catholics alike, that I came to conclusion that the modern papacy is very different from its role it took before the shism; primes inter pares. Of course I was in denial for little while, and was even trying to back up my preconcieved notion about it. The answers that I found just never stuck with me.

  • As far my questions, just for example, Purgatory; Through study I believe that a purging after death existed, and I knew the Orthodox rejected. Well, actually, I had came to conclusion that there are many traditions concerning the 'in-between' (for a lack of a better term) such as for instance toll houses. However there is also no defenitive (Dogmatic; doctrinal) Orthodox opinion. Juan told me that there is a "purging" after death in Orthodoxy, its just not 'Purgatory'. I can dig that! However I still have a question: Does sanctifying grace help in a deceased persons 'purging'? As in, can prayers help in their cleansing process? (Similar to why Catholics pray for the dead, or similar to why Orthodox-Jews recite the mourners kaddish)

  • Of course, my question regarding Saints is more of question that affects me personally and culturally, though I wouldnt say it would hinder my journey.

  • As far as the apparitions are concerned; I've heard many Orthodox agree that they can be believed, with an explanantion to the things Mary said through an Orthodox lens. And contrastingly, I've heard many disagree if not flat out warn against it. In the end it wouldnt hinder my journey.

  • Of course, as far as my conversion goes, I'm at the point of leaning towards the Orthodoxy being the true Church. I cant say that I'm there yet ;)
