Pres Bollinger Email 9/1/21: Heading Back to Campus

Well, let's do some critical thinking the school is always touting it helps cultivate.

Is a 93% staff vaccination rate anything to brag about? We have 18,000 staff. Multiple that by 7%, and you've got 1,260 unvaccinated people on campus. Are all these people granted exemptions? Will they be fired? Will they be working from home indefinitely so they don't infect the rest of the campus? Columbia won't say.

We know this is also a virus that spreads unevenly: that is, some people spread much worse than others, and superspreaders can infect a ton of people in a short window. 1,260 leaks from this leaky vaccine pseudo-mandate is nothing to feel assured about.

I'm someone who is a vaccine optimist, by the way, and generally in favor of in-person learning but executed competently, not like this.
