US Presidential Election Megathread

What can I do to improve the state of our democracy?

Only in the malevolent, totalitarian regimes that the United States has always fiercely opposed has the media been controlled and governed by those in power. Only in these regimes has stupidity systematically proliferated, while intellectual criticism has been suppressed. But in this this election things feel different; I feel the evil of corruption looming atop the pyramid of power and I am so scared to my gut for the implications of this that I currently cannot sleep and simply have to write this in the hopes that someone will answer; that someone will see what I see and will know what to do.

I have watched videos lately of guests in the studio of CNN and MSNBC having their microphones cut or the signal mystically getting lost mid interview in the very moment Hillary Clinton is criticized. This is simply happening too often for it to be a coincidence. Someone must be coordinating these things. And if that is the case, then the fourth pillar of our democracy not only shows signs of decay, but has already deteriorated to a miserable state. And the way I see it, the videos of mic cutting and “lost signals” only ever get a fraction of the views that the actual news stations get: in other words, the media will always convince more people with its seeming one-sidedness and its biases than it will make question the system.

The way I see it, it simply must not happen that a puppeteer of Clinton's magnitude is elected president. This is not the US I know, it is not US our founding fathers had in mind: I feel that this is simply a direct tampering of our democratic system and I wonder if an even further drop in the democracy index is required for people awaken to this madness. So my first question is, am I overstating the danger? Am I making out things to be worse than they are?

My second questions is this: What can I personally do to protect our democracy and our freedom from governmental control and oppression?
