I've said it time and time again...the characteristic that distinguishes conservatives from others is empathy. I read books every night with my 5 year old and recently I've worked the MLK scholastic book into the rotation. He's been to preschool and had teachers and classmates and friends of color. I don't want him thinking everyone is treated the same. I think mostly when you get into urban areas you're forced to adapt....oh, damn I have a neighbor that's gay, one neighbor that's a muslim, one neighbor that's chinese.....people out in rural parts (not all, but a lot) eat a lot of corn and everyone they know is white, loves jesus and guns and nickleback.
