PSA: Freedompop's coverage map is extremely inaccurate.

Here's my extremely frustrating Twitter chat with them. I deleted when I gave personal info.

We do offer coverage in Wyoming, Iowa. Please provide us with the zip code so we can confirm the information.

Don't know I just passed through. Just discovered something. When the map is fully zoomed out. Iowa has tons of white space. This is the coverage I seem to be getting actually. When I zoom in, tons of yellow pops up. That is not accurate.

Do a refresh on the map page. Iowa has tons of dead spots. Zoom in a click. Suddenly Iowa has almost total 3g shown. This is not true for my coverage experience though. I get what's shown when you refresh the page and look at iowa

We understand Cr and we apologize for any inconveniences you had with your device. We use the coverage map the carrier provides an it;s not always 100% accurate. However this issue has been escalated so that our team can look into this specific coverage issue.

This is not like that. It shows completely different coverage depending on the zoom level. So you confirm that the zoomed out map is correct?

Your maps are showing about 95% coverage in Iowa, when customers are only getting about 25%. Yeah I'd say that's not 100% percent accurate.

Our Support Team will be looking into this. However, keep in mind that for coverage to be more accurate, we strongly recommend by checking with the complete address (street, city, state, zip code) and zoom in to the maximum. That way you'll be able to confirm if there is coverage in an specific location.

8:50 AM

The whole point of this is that zooming in is giving completely wrong coverage. I don't know if you are getting this. I was just driving through that area. I did not get data at all for miles. The real coverage I got was not anything remotely close to the zoomed in map. Like I said I was getting full bars of roaming in the area, but it wasn't giving me any data. Am I supposed to be getting data when it shows roaming symbol on my phone?

11:16 AM

Do you have the zip code of the area you're referring to?

Without the zip code, we're unable to confirm.

11:17 AM

52362

I just looked it up. I was just passing through. I don't care about that specific area. It was lots of places on my trip that show have coverage didn't give me any data connection because it showed roaming

I understand when your map is zoomed to that location it shows good 3g coverage, we already got that.

11:19 AM

From what I've read you don't use Verizon for extended coverage correct? Sprint does not have native coverage in that area. So if you only use sprint and don't have extended coverage that would be why I don't have any there and your zoomed in map is way wrong. That would be mean your map of iowa shows about 3 times more coverage than freedompoop customers actually get.

11:31 AM

We've checked coverage on zip code 52362 and there is extended 4G LTE coverage in the area. Therefore, that is the reason why you experienced issues with the service. We don't use Verizon's network. Our CDMA devices work exclusively through Sprint's network.

12:27 PM

So how do I get data service there? Your own map shows 3g

1:45 PM

Also when I look at sprints maps it doesn't show any native Sprint coverage there. Not sure how I will get any data there if you only use Sprint because they don't have a tower there. I was just there on Sunday and got no data signal.

1:47 PM

Are you saying your map zoomed in is wrong or not?

1:49 PM

Sprint's coverage map is not showing 3G coverage in the area, it shows extended 4G LTE coverage in the area, which means they're using using a different carrier's towers to provide you with service. Since our service works specifically through Sprint's network, there won't be coverage in that specific area.

1:50 PM

So why does your map show 3g?

1:53 PM

Also just in the Twitter conversation you told me there was coverage in that location.

1:56 PM

"We do offer coverage in Wyoming, Iowa."

1:58 PM

As previously stated, in order to receive accurate information when it comes to coverage, it is best to check by the complete address. We did request the zip code previously, however, you mentioned you did not know. Therefore, the information provided was general.

2:03 PM

You are so full of it. You have zero coverage in wyoming, Iowa. Give a me any address where you do.

2:03 PM

Tell me your map is accurate when I zoom into wyoming, Iowa. It's completely covered with 3g according to your map for FREEDOMPOP COVERAGE

Wyoming Iowa has like 50 people or something. Give me any location where there is coverage there as you said.

2:05 PM

We have provided the information requested. You may check coverage on the link below: (link: http://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp?ECID=vanity:coverage) coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp?ECI… As previously stated, the best is to check with the complete address by typing in just the zip code or just the city and state, you won't get detailed information. Let us know in case you get to need further assistance, we'll be happy to help.

2:05 PM

Yours maps are lying. I'll be posting this to some places. You can respond about how insanely wrong your own maps are if you want.

2:06 PM

I am well aware you don't have coverage there because I went there for myself. Then why does your map show you have full 3g coverage? You don't answer my questions and haven't assisted me.

2:07 PM

You are providing wrong information to people.

2:10 PM

We have previously stated, that FreedomPop devices work through Sprint's network, except for SIM cards. Therefore, you'll need to check for coverage on Sprint's coverage map. We have confirmed that in the specific zip code you've just provided, there is no coverage.

2:13 PM

Then why does your map show 3g coverage?

2:15 PM

I type in the zip. The entire screen is covered with 3g FREEDOMPOP coverage and some small parts of 4g.

2:17 PM

This was your first response in this message: "Hello! It is correct, the Free Plan for CDMA phones includes 3G areas."

Admit you lie/mislead/are wrong about your own coverage and I'll leave you alone.

2:19 PM

Where exactly are you checking the coverage?

2:20 PM

(link: http://freedompop.com/coverage3g4g) freedompop.com/coverage3g4g So the free 500 MB plan with a sprint phone includes the 3g areas of this map? Apr 5, 2017, 2:38 PM FreedomPop Support Hello! It is correct, the Free Plan for CDMA phones includes 3G areas.
