Quick Help & Game Issues

I'm having a really rough time with the difficulty in this game, and I can't help feeling I've built my character wrong. I just fought Blightmaw, and saw people saying that he had a 'low reflex save' so grease would beat him, but he has +14 for me meaning he needs to roll like a 3 to not get greased.

This sort of thing has been constant, I'm playing a wizard and started with 18 int (have a bit higher now) but it feels like every significant enemy has impossible saves, massive spell resistance, and approximately seventy quadrillion attacks so anyone in melee with them gets instagibbed.

I was following the games recommendations for party members (which I'm starting to think was a mistake, I'm used to neverwinter nights where that seemed to work out alright) but just doing my best at building what seemed like a sensible wizard myself, but more and more I'm finding myself staring at encounters and wondering if these were developed while in the midst of some kind of combined acid trip/vietnam flashback because I cannot fathom how these are supposed to be reasonable.
