PTA May Have Directed A New Music Video For Radiohead

Or lip syncing. But it may or may not be useful, depending on how that actor (singer/dancer) and director like to work. Like with the Lotus Flower video, I assume they actually had the song going during at least some parts of the shoot, but maybe Thom memorized the exact rhythm to the song or they were using the bare rhythm track and not the whole song or something.

Another thing to bear in mind is, Thom starring alone in a music video for Radiohead is nothing new, and says nothing about whether this video will involve dancing or not, because almost every Radiohead music video of the past 20 years starred Thom alone. It's just easier to develop ambitious narrative videos if you don't have to worry about inventing a character for each of five members of a band. Thom proved he is a good actor as well, in videos like There There, Knives Out, No Surprises and Karma Police (none of which involve dancing), and that may be less true of some band members.

Considering the past few videos that have actually starred Thom (and sometimes other members of Radiohead), we have the following narrative progression:

*October 2007- Jigsaw- the image "dances" while the band stay still and move their camera-mounted heads in mock-drunken rhythm to the song. video is presented in a humorous way, to get the band into the groove of "dance videos" without feeling like "we are making dance videos now."

*January 2008- Nude- all the band members floating/"dancing" kinda, in slo mo. again presented somewhat humorously, although less clearly "taking the piss" this time. this video marks the point at which the humorous member of hammer & tongs, adam buxton, exits the video collabs, with garth jennings handling future straight-up dance videos.

*July 2008- House of Cards- Thom is seen in digitally distorted form, dancing at a party. This marks the last entry before full dance video mode is invoked. Single Ladies, the black and white dance video that is so influential it even creates KanyeTaylorgate, is also released later in the same year, note. Let's not pretend Thom is uninfluenced by Beyonce or hates her- that's very unlikely at this point.

*February 2011- Lotus Flower- we all know this. The solo dancer.

*February 2013- Ingenue- Lotus Flower part 2. In color. With a partner, female styled as a Thom double in some shots. A very oddly addictive video that shouldn't work on so many levels (even the composition of the opening and closing shots just looks so awkward), but does, and where any discomfort seems fully intended, yet the effect overall is sweet, even lightly humorous (an improvement on the self-serious Lotus Flower, which actually helps this video feel more emotional). Ingenue, both the song and video, justifies the Amok project, which is a good thing since almost nothing else related to that album is memorable three years later. But this might even rank in the top five of all Radiohead related videos.

*October 2014- A Brain in a Bottle- once again the solo "dancer," this time the shadow (tomorrow's modern) boxer.
