If you live in the most secular, not-religious area of the country, I’m guessing you live in either the Pacific NW or Vermont.

If I’m right, you’re not seeing the real story about the future of America, because it’s not happening there (yet).

The future of America is not white conservatives. They are going away. The future of America is Latino. If you travel through the Southern part of the US where the fastest growing population centers are located - Georgia, Texas, the Carolinas, Florida, Arizona - yes, there are Evangelical families with a few kids, but for every one of those families, there are 10 Latino families with as many or more kids. I can see it my own neighborhood in the morning when I walk the dog. Who’s waiting for the bus, who’s meeting kids at the bus stop. I travel a fair bit for work and you can see it by who’s in what airports . PHX, ATL, DFW, CLT - more crowded, younger, more brown. PHL, ORD, STL get emptier, older, and whiter every year.

And like every wave of immigration in US history, who knows how this will turn out. Some will be reactionary lunatics, some will be socialists, most will be center-right like most people in the US - “I’m fine with gay marriage, just don’t tax me so much.”
