My first goal was to get a Gengar, and I managed to catch a 14/13/14 Haunter and evolve it to Gengar right before the buddy system came out and without hatching any Gastlys... then I hatched 3 Gastlys in a row then fed it all the candy from the hatches. I wanted it to get Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball and it did! One of the very few times I got a moveset I wanted.
This is soon after evolving and feeding it before the CP rebalance.
This is him now, maxed with me having just hit level 30 yesterday.
As a side, I've got 9 Gengars now all from before Gen 2:
-3 Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball
-3 Shadow Claw/Sludge Bomb (This one with 15 Attack being the only good thing I've got from a lure being maxed alongside Biggie Spooks)
-1 Sucker Punch/Dark Pulse (The dark/half legacy moveset)
-1 Shadow Claw/Dark Pulse (The full legacy moveset)
-1 Sucker Punch/Shadow Ball (The only one that can still be obtained, also the lowest CP Gengar)
