It's the /r/melbourne random discussion thread [Thursday 21/02/2019]

As a foreigner, I don’t understand Australia. I don’t know where to express but, I’m black for eg, I come here and Australians pretend there’s lots of tension, like we are America or something. Technically I was born here, just haven’t been here long - but I know racism, and this country isn’t racist.

I don’t know how to say this non-offensively, but everyone who tells me of the racial issues is white, and it’s like...okay, guess I’ve been oppressed the past 3 years and just didn’t realise?

I don’t know, but Australia has much more unity than elsewhere, and is so accepting. I saw on the US news a segment about racism here and they made the white people sound awful, and it made me angry. It is so rare.
