Caramel, brownies, chocolate, honey. People use the word night a lot too, but I kinda like that one

I remember watching a video that mentioned this. It said to replace overused words with more descriptions invoke feeling and color. Like “her weathered hands looked like the rolling storm over a calm sea.” She said it adds more character too, and she’s so right.

I feel so much more in “His face was clay from the river, pushed and pulled into his crooked nose, gentle lips, and wrinkles in the corners of his eyes” than in “his skin was rich chocolate.”

Obviously the second one can be made a lot better by describing more. Smooth, rich, velvety, citrus sweet but with a bitter aftertaste. But they never do that. It’s always “mans dark like chocolate. 90% dark chocolate. Yum” and then they move on
