Random clothing cleaning questions

This is gonna sound crazy (maybe) but if I get the item cheaply enough and it’s not wool I just wash it, even if it says dry Clean. If I ruin it, I’m not out that much. If I save it - hooray. Have even had this work with silk tops although you have to iron them afterwards to restore the luster (real iron not steamer). Either hand wash or wash in my front loader with a garment bag. Delicate cycle and woolite. Take measurements before and after to check for shrinkage. For example - I found a really gorgeous ivory sheath dress at the bins that was stained with what I can only imagine was tanning spray mixed with sweat. Fabric was a cotton blend soaked in oxi clean and then washed cold gentle and the stains came out. Hung to dry and had to press the lining. no shrinkage. Customer who eventually bought it loved it. Ends up being a lot of work though so I just pass on items that have stains or smells most of the time.
