So why is rape considered almost worse than muder?

The one thing to really set rape apart, even from the excuse along the lines of 'she has to live with it,' is that rape has no excuse.

Someone can murder in self-defense. Someone can murder the man fucking their wife, or someone robbing their house. Everyone who isn't an absolute pacifist in matters of war has argued for the murder of thousands at some pointin time. Most every great work of art in any medium, be it film, literature, theater, even video games, has people getting murdered quite often, and people are fine with that.

But rape? This doesn't apply to rape. Saying you raped a guy because he broke in your window and had a knife will net you no sympathy. Many people might advocate bombing civilian populations and warfare knowing it will kill many, but good luck finding a person who'd think of a ten thousand people getting raped in a war is a positive. Capital punishment is a thing in some places, and it has its supporters, but only a tiny amount of people will argue that people who commit heavy crimes should be raped for their misdeeds instead.

Murder can be many things, and is final. People murder for vengeance. Out if self-defence. On fucking accident. Rape happens in none of these ways. A murderer is someone who thought he had to take a life for any reason. A rapist, on the other hand, is very nearly always someone who went out of their way to wreck and ruin an innocent person for their own pleasures and nothing else.

If anything, rape is worse because of what it says about us. A world with murder is a world of hard decisions and high-strung emotions. A world with rapists is one with honest-to-god monsters inside.
