The reason people hate pop music isn't because they don't want people to enjoy things or have their own taste, it's because it gets annoying to hear it everywhere you go and not be able to escape it.

I used to really hate pop music, but then my brother-in-law and I started doing some mobile DJ-ing for weddings, parties, etc. We ended up playing lots of pop and dance stuff along with hiphop, r&b, etc etc. I came to the realization that pop music is what it is: Fun to listen when drunk and dancing. It's a bottle rocket. It only last for a little while, and then it needs to be replaced. It's simple and silly. Fifty years from now people will still be listening to Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, NWA, Miles Davis, etc. No one will remember a damn thing about Katy Perry, Justin Beiber, Post Malone, etc. etc. I'm not bashing them, it's just the truth.
