Your fears are so valid. My family is obnoxiously close so I fear to become one of those “holiday” families.

My brothers are super close with our mom, as am I. My oldest brother is 42, always lived in our hometown until he moved for work about 6 years back. When he was here we’d randomly pop in or he’d come to my parents house several times a week for dinner or chat or borrow things etc. Since moving 6 years ago he and his wife have brought the kids (21, 18,17,and 8) to stay in my parents house for weekends about once a month. Before they got settled their whole family of 6 would stay off and on with my parents and I for weeks. If we go a bit without seeing them like 2 months, we (my parents, myself, my husband, my kids) all take a family trip to stay at his house.

My middle brother is 36, same thing, always lived in our home town until he moved to work for my oldest brother. He and his wife would drive home every other weekend with an infant to stay with my parents for like 3 years. Until they moved back because he and his wife both missed their parents/grandparents.

Now my middle brother and I both own homes about 5 minutes from my parents and she frequently keeps both of our kids, we cook out at my parents’ about once a month, she’s always just stopping by both our houses.
