Update on my previous thread "My son (7mo) is waking up every 10-60 minutes every night - This is not attachment parenting, this is insanity..." - The doctor laughed at us...

You’ll need to advocate for him. If your doctor laughs then go to another until you find one that will order the tests. I was able to get 2 different pediatricians to do it. I was right, my daughter was anemic. Being iron deficient can cause restless sleeping as well as developmental delays so it is important to know whether he is or not if your intuition is telling you it’s medical. I personally wouldn’t supplement it without talking to a doctor first— our hematologist moved us from a strong iron supplement to a multi vitamin once her levels were normal. It can be dangerous in high doses.

Once she wasn’t anemic anymore sleep improved but we still had frequent wakings. It wasn’t until she started having speech/feeding issues around age 2 that we got her tongue tie lasered. Apparently that can affect breathing at night if the tongue isn’t able to rest properly in the mouth. That did the trick. Now she wakes once or twice a night instead of 10+. So I recommend getting him assessed at a pediatric dentist for that too. Just check their website and make sure they offer the laser removal at their location instead of cutting (less infection risk).
