Reddit, what's the worst experience you've had on a flight or at an airport?

I was studying abroad and went to France for some weeklong break a few years ago. In classic undergrad style, I ended up going to the airport nearly blind drunk with a likeminded friend bc I was going back to no beaches and a consulting internship plus the tickets were printed and everything, no checked bags. Not to mention a sick bottle of brut was €2 so....yup.

We were in line waiting to board and could SEE the plane, and at this point I'm talking to all sorts of people in line. In a British accent because (no reason) I explained the Schengen Agreement to a couple young Brits who were wondering why we were having another Passport check.

And then the flight got cancelled. The plane had been unopened & sitting on the Tarmac for hours before it got quarantined because someone was reported as having bacterial meningitis. Soooo everyone on board stayed there for hours while we got reassigned to a different part of the airport to find replacement flights. I had to keep up an accent the entire time to avoid potential embarrassment.

Cut 3 hours later to an airport hotel with not even a single vending machine or packet of chips, but an open bar and tons of Europeans wth cigarettes. I drank two Guinness for dinner and smoked to try to suppress my appetite, which is impossible when you're drunk. I went back into my room and threw up ferociously before passing out (shared with frat guy bc at that point we were bros...thanks gawd cuz it was ugly in there).

I got in trouble with my school for missing a day of classes for this, so I photocopied a French newspaper I grabbed whilst delayed with the headline saying something about 'Mènengite!' and asked if they needed me to translate. I get passive aggressive when I'm hungover, I guess, but the cumulative experience kicked the shit out of me.
