Redditor explains how to deal with anxiety attacks and depression RIGHT NOW

I thought it had the right idea and thought the first paragraph was great but doing that "Don't do this, don't do that" routine in the second part is fairly redundant imo. Telling strangers ,especially online, how to live and instructing them is the reason a lot of self help books don't work.

You cannot simply instruct someone to change their life and set rules out for them, especially online, as if you were some God of Life Decisions. It's the equivalent of those "meaningful" quotes I see on Facebook. It won't do anything except give a temporary sense of motivation and I guarantee it won't have done anyhing long term.

They should have left it at the meditation section, THAT is what's important. Leading by example, not by words, is more effective than anything in these moments. If the commenter had said "OP here's what I did, here's the obastacles I had faced and here's why I kept going and succeeded. And I believe you can do the same" then OP would have likely registered it on a different, more personal level. The commenter threw out a one size fits all "I know hwtas best" reply but they didn't show they were actually listening, the core facet of communication. They didn't acknowledge OP's predicament. I've lost count of how many people I've come across now that simply do. not. listen. , instead giving their own version of events.

It's like the manager who thinks motivation comes from a few broad generic choice words, instead of actually engaging with employees. It's the same logic: people don't take on board messages tainted with condescension and disrespect.
