I just started the ep, so I'm curious if they'll get into the online cultures based on transhumanism, but these subcultures' beliefs, attitudes and structures are archetypal enough that I think they're interesting to look at from a distance:

1) Seemingly politically-neutral and wrapped in a cloak of scientific language, but in reality politically reactionary (the inventor of the term was a eugenicist, which Marcus might touch in a bit) and based on a nonsensical conception of biological optimization

2) Comprised of a series of insular groups with inviolable assumptions and beliefs that border on forms of online cults

As far as salient current events, the billionaire space/Mars colonization race I think also brings out a point made by critics of transhumanist philosophy: ignoring if not exacerbating real, current political problems and human suffering in favor longing for a far-off, sci-fi utopian salvation created by select ubermenschen.
