do not underestimate how much people LOATHED last Jedi...critics are not the general audience and the general audience gave TLJ the worst box office legs of all time in December.

The only reason why a lot of fans came back was because of those retcons, because palpatine, and because of that finale factor...With no palpatine and a doubling down on TLJ’s divisive plot points, it would have been a complete financial disaster that would have lost money.
