Roland TR-6S with Midi Controller: how to start/stop?

Okay, I have now tried both the Step Audio One Trick Pony Start/Stop (which literally only sends a start/stop message) and the Morningstar MC6. However, I have encountered new problems:

- The START message of both devices seems to trigger the start of the pattern with a delay of about two seconds. The "Play" symbol on the display (triangle next to "TR-REC") flashes immediately on pressing the switch, but the actual pattern starts only two seconds later. Weirdly however, the STOP message is immediately halting the pattern. Is there a setting inside the TR-6S to correct this? Since it seems to be an issue of the TR-6S, not the midi controllers.

- When using the Morning Star Audio and sending a PC message to the TR-6S in order to switch to a new pattern, it switches to that one immediately - whereas when I change it manually on the device with PTN SELECT, it waits until the current pattern is finished before it switches to the new one. Is it possible to make it so that a press on the footswitch triggers the new pattern only after the current one is finished as well?

I intend to use the Roland TR-6S while playing my guitar, so my workaround on the MC6 so far is to link a PC message for an empty pattern to the start message preset, and using another preset for the PC message triggering the first pattern of the song as my actual "start" switch. But it would be better if I didn't have to waste a slot for this and not be super accurate with pressing the footswitches for different patterns within the same song (verse, chorus, etc.). Does anybody know if it's possible to set up the TR-6S or the midi controllers to solve these two inconveniences? Thanks a lot!!
