INTRODUCTION

The Mass Dragon Attack is the most reliable attack strategy for townhall 7 players. That is why we recommend all townhall 7 player to use this action in every war.

For townhall 8s, it can generally get three stars but the attack requires a lot more strategic placement of the dragons. I think this is where a lot of players fail because they are used to using mass dragon attacks as a townhall 7 but do not realize that it take a lot more thought and strategy to do the same attack successfully against a townhall 8.

The most common complaint I heard on chat is that dragons are stupid. Well, dragons are slightly mentally challenged, but they are not stupid. They are just simple creatures. But once you understand their mentally, you will be able to control them more readily for your attack.

The purpose of this guide is to put together the general principles that I have learned from watching other players attack and reading other guides. Following these principles will not guarantee you a three star attack. However, it will dramatically increase your chances of getting three stars.

GETTING READY TO ATTACK!

In this section, I talk about the preparation you will need to prepare for your attack. What type of army and spells you should have ready.

Army Composition: So how many dragons should I have in your army camp? It should be 10 dragons. I generally do not have any other troops in my army camp other than dragons because, as explained below, there is no need to lure the Clan Castle Troops when you are doing mass dragon attacks. Plus, the idea behind mass dragon attacks is that the dragons will simply overpower all the Air Defenses without having to worry about the mortars and cannons. Thus, when you throw ground troops in, your ground troops will get murdered pretty quickly because those mortars and cannons will focus all their attention on them.

Clan Castle:

What should I have in my clan castle? You should bring maxed Loons (level6) in your clan castle, those are really powerful and only target defenses, your goal is to get profit of that strength to destroy AD with loons. If an Air Defenses is near the edge of a side that you do not want to deploy your dragons, you can also use maxed HogRiders to destroy that Air Defenses.

For townhall 7s with 20 spaces on, also 4 maxed Loons.

Spells:

The spells combination is important depending on the town you want to attack and the strategy you want to follow, those strategies are explained later with a video of how to use each spell combination correctely.

ATTACK!

In this section, I talk about deployment of the dragons and where you should drop your dragons.

Dropping the Dragons:

How should I drop my dragons? I always drop my dragons in a line (if I am attacking a straight side of a base) or in a cup shape (if I am attacking a corner of a base). In dropping them, I spread them out slightly but not too far apart. I also drop more of my dragons in the center of my line than on the outside. The reasoning behind this is that you want the dragons on the outside to act as a buffer to destroy the buildings on the edges so that the majority of your dragons will go down the center. Those buildings on the edge is the reason some dragons get distracted and go in circles around the base.

Clan Castle Troops:

Should I lure the clan castle troops first before I deploy my dragons? No. You do not want to lure the Clan Castle troops for two primary reasons: 1) your dragons are so strong that they will just burn through the Clan Castle troops; and 2) HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON YOU DO NOT WANT TO LURE THE CC TROOPS – YOUR DRAGON’S ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ACTUALLY CAUSES IT TO ATTACK THE CC TROOPS FIRST BEFORE ANY OTHER BUILDING. SO GIVEN THAT CC TROOPS ARE GENERALLY IN THE CENTER OF THE BASE, IT WILL CAUSE YOUR DRAGONS TO GO TO THE CENTER FOR YOU!

Where To Drop?

Here is the million dollar question. Where should I drop my dragons?

Unfortunately, the answer to the question is: “It depends…” Where I drop the dragons normally depends on a number of factors:

  • Air Defenses – where are the air defenses? If there are any air defenses that are close to the edge of the base, I might consider that as a good area to drop my dragons as it will destroy that Air Defense pretty quickly.

  • Other Defense buildings – where are the wizard towers? The next defense

  • Storages – Where are the storage buildings? Storage buildings have the largest amount of hit points and can stall your dragon attack quickly because your dragons will take a longer time to destroy them. As your dragons are flying there taking their time burning the storage buildings, the Air Defenses are probably near by hitting your dragons. So I generally look for a side or place that has less storage buildings between where I deploy the dragons and the townhall.

  • Layout – what is the layout of the base? Is it arranged in a manner so that it is easy for me to create a lane for my dragons to go to the center?

  • Clan Castle – where is the Clan Castle located? As I mentioned above, your dragons will go to the CC Troops first once the Clan Castle is activated. So the location of the Clan Castle is important in planning my attack as I want to get my dragons all to the center.

Creating A Path:

For TownHall 8s, creating a path for your dragons will be important because townhall 8s are larger bases (thus, a greater chance of your dragons getting distracted) and more, stronger Ads. For Townhall 7s, this is not a very big issue because your dragons with rage spells will be so strong, it should burn through the entire base without a need to create a path. Plus, townhall 7s are smaller bases so every path should lead to the townhall.

Before I go into discussing this part of my strategy, I need to explain the mentality of dragons. Dragons are very simple creatures. They just go wherever there is a standing building. So if there is no standing building in a particular area, the dragons will not go there. So what I try to do is basically destroy the buildings on the edges that might distract my dragons. Think of it like you are creating a road for the dragons. So on that “road”, you want nothing but buildings so that the dragons can stay on the “road” destroying each building as they go along. On the two sides of the “road”, you want to keep them clean of all debris and buildings so that the dragons do not veer off the “road”!

So how do I create a path? I generally prefer to create a path by dropping my BK on one side and a drag on the other side and let them each go to town. I have also seen some people use minions to destroy the buildings on the sides and that is another way to go at it. A lately strategy showed that is also interesting to save your BK for the end of the attack to help the cleaning with the dragons.

HOWEVER, BE CAREFUL IN TERMS OF THE TIMING OF WHEN YOU DEPLOY YOUR BARBARIAN KING BECAUSE YOU DO NOT WANT THEM TO TRIGGER THE ENEMY’S CLAN CASTLE. THIS WILL CAUSE THE ENEMY’S CC TROOPS TO ATTACK YOUR BK OR CC TROOP FIRST AND THAT WILL THEN CAUSE YOUR DRAGONS TO FOLLOW THEM IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION AS OPPOSED TO THE CENTER. SO THE IDEA IS THAT YOU GENERALLY WANT YOUR DRAGONS TO TRIGGER THE ENEMY'S CLAN CASTLE.

For the clan castle loons, the objective is that they target the enemy Air Defenses and they get there without any damage. For this you need to wait some time till you drags destroyed almost all buildings and are targeting the center, also it is interesting to drop a rage on your drags and in front of your loons. This way your loons will move faster to the center and will get there without any damage. The important fact is to deploy them on the right time, not to early or air defenses will target them before drags and neither too late because it will be over. Take care WHERE you deploy the loons to check the closer defense they are going to target.

Spells:

So when should I drop my spells?

Do not place a spell just over one dragon though. You want to use your spells so that it affects the most number of dragons. So you want to drop it so that the dragons are just coming into the spell area and will be there for the entirety of the spell. Do not throw spells that overlap each other as that is just a waste of the spell.

The best way of showing the different spell combinations and how to use them are the following videos:

mllt: personally I prefer the 3 rage strategy or the 2 rage and 1 heal strategy, because those rage spells help your loons a lot and your drags destroy faster, because many times the problem is the time at the end of the attack.
