Russian forces are resorting to "mass suicidal attacks" on Ukrainians, effectively sending hundreds of soldiers over the frontline for minimal military gains but as a massive cost in Russian lives

Speaking of resources, did you know that at the end of the war, the japanese used pine oil as fuel for their planes? The "pine root campaign" was a significant effort by Japan to produce alternative fuels from biomass sources, including pine roots, during World War II. The campaign was launched in 1944, when Japan's fuel shortages were becoming increasingly acute.

The goal of the campaign was to produce 12,000 barrels of fuel per day from pine roots. This was an ambitious target and it would have required a massive effort involving as many as 1.25 million people per day to gather enough pine roots to meet the target fuel requirements for one day of flight operations.
