It is in the beginning of the Missal, you may stay seated in prayer or go up with arms crossed, that tells the priest you cannot take Eucarist yet. It's a special Spiritual Eucarist since you cannot take the actual Eucarist and completely different than an overall blessing at the end of Mass. I also agree with previous poster, it connects you with the priest. Those who complain about holding up the lines; seriously, what are you there for? I always hate it that there's this mad rush...it's literally the most important aspect of our faith. I know the people in front of me feel rushed, so I purposefully slow down, bring my daughter to receive the blessing and I also pause and bow deeply in front of Jesus, then receive him. When I first came back to the Church, I was super self-conscious and felt a little bullied by the people who were rushing about. Now I say, if you have found certain methods/rubricks you like but a bit different than others, as long as they are correct (if a little more reverent, old fashioned, etc...) go for it. God Bless! And never let others decide how faithful or spiritual you should be!
