S02E12 "When A Stranger Calls" Discussion Thread

What a disappointing finale. I think the climax just goes to show how lazily everything was put together. Ever since early season 1 I thought Kieran (I do admit to also thinking his father was Brandon James), and what really sealed that guess was the bowling alley episode, because the killer disappears and then MAGICALLY Kieran appears. Even after his father was killed, I just thought, "well he seems pretty unaffected." Knowing the film franchise, making sacrifices is something the killer often does.

The problem with season 2 is that it doesn't do anything to dispel Kieran as the killer. Instead, it just makes it all the more obvious. When he goes, "you shouldn't be alone" for the fifth time in the theater and just runs away alone, I kept rolling my eyes. His motives were really dumb. "Killing is good therapy" is so basic. Funny enough, many people had a "he's making a movie" theory, which was genius. When I saw the projected footage on the screen, I thought, "oh crap, this confirms it!" Nope. Some people thought that maybe Emma's dad accidentally killed his parents. Nope.

It's also a little dumb that we have to fill in the gaps. So Kieran meets Nina at the bar, then kills her. Perhaps Rachel was targeted because he was jealous that Piper had a new pen pal - or maybe Piper just wanted to "train him" and sadistically pointed him that way. Right now I'm content with this logic to explain those big plot holes.
