Scam or honest mistake?

It could be an honest mistake. Assuming they are trying to hide fact they forgot to scan item. It’s our job to make sure all items scan. And shopper can submit reimbursement form through shipt. No need for customer to reimburse. That’s why I think they are trying to hide error from shipt. I’ve forgotten an item a time or two (left eggs back at end of conveyor belt, totally my fault). I inform customer I did it, I will be paying with my own money and shipt will reimburse me.
But I have no idea if customer is charged for that item, tho guessing they are bc we are required to include order #.
I have never got in trouble for my error but it’s 2 or 3 in nearly 1000 orders.
