Where can I get unaged whisky?

A word to the wise. I’ll tell you a story about this topic.

I received a mature your own kit for a gift. Small charred oak barrel with 1 litre of new make. Now before I even started this I was of no mind that this would turn out anything comparable to a good whisky but it was a gift so I tried. The instruction said ‘drinkable whisky from 2 weeks.’

So I filled the barrel as instructed. And left it for 6 months. Came out the colour of whisky. Lovely dark brown colour and smelled heavily of oak and vaguely whisky-y. Lost about a third of volume due to evaporation.

It sat in the bottles for another few months undrunk till one night I opened it and had 2 glasses. Now the spirit was 65% abv when put in the barrel so I’m unsure what it was when it came out. All I know was I couldn’t stand or speak the next morning. I was sick in the garden, couldn’t stand long enough to shower and didn’t leave the house or eat for 2 days.

Best leave the aging of the new make to the professionals and maybe season the barrel with port/sherry and stick a low to moderate priced whisky in to try and finish it a unique way.

TL:DR - nearly killed myself with a home mature kit, poured it all down the sink.
