Side money making gigs (not phone/apps/etc.) using my development skills?

There's always Upworthy. If you are unfamiliar, this is a freelancer website where individuals lay out a 20-point list of requirements for their website including payment, ordering, shipping, advertising, marketing, SEO, art work, domain name, hosting and "any helpful ideas you might have to make their business better."

They can also specify their budget, which will average around $50 US for the work I just mentioned. You can then send a "proposal" where you spend two of your "connects," of which you get 60 per month. Then, if for some reason they choose you among the 30 "developers" from India, Pakistan or Ukraine, you get the privilege of working on their future Fortune-500 company's website.

Don't forget that Upwork will take 20% of your earnings as their fee.

I have earned just under $2,000 US from the website this month. Most of my clients don't want to handle the payment through Upwork and instead choose Paypal because they are charged ridiculous fees as well. This works out well for me too. I cherry pick and don't apply to any job that has more than 5 other applicants. Most work will be as I described above, but there are some reasonable clients. It can be frustrating seeing all the low-ballers on there though.
