Is this some kind of sick joke?

I know people who work for major tech companies like HP, Intel, Google, and Apple that live here in Portland but take the company shuttle flights to the campuses in California a few days a week. It's an hour flight to the Bay Area or a two hour flight to LAX and the flights are the same times every morning/evening. Still blows my mind that those companies pay airlines like Delta/United to have two dedicated flights a day between their major campus cities regardless of if their employees actually fill the seats. The upside for people who don't work for those companies but live and travel between those cities is you can always get dirt cheap seats booked pretty much same day on those two flights each day because they gotta fly regardless of the actual number of travelers.
