Some people should have just died

I work for a big organisation in elderly care. Lots of closed units for people with dementia. Big part of my job is starting the morfine infusions (sedation) when they suffer a regular infection like pneunomia, and their family decides they arent going to treat it anymore (wich happens 90% off the time). I see a lot of people die, but in a very humane, peacefull way. Theyre being let go. Because its okay. Mostly their last years are a dark reflection of who they used to be. I dont think that does them justice. Usually theyll be sedated for a few dates, slowly leaving as theyre not getting liquids. Pre covid family got to spend these full days and nights together. I can recall some beautifull situations.
