The judgment calls I’m making either directly or indirectly address what is in my best interest as an independent attorney with my own license and reputation and future to consider. My bottom line is simply that I want to follow the ethical rules and avoid being sued, and spending a little extra time to be thorough is the best way I know how to do that at this point in my career. Even setting that aside, I simply don’t have the “muscle memory” to work at the partner’s desired pace yet.

Though I do agree that fundamental differences in how we work and conduct ourselves make this a bad fit, so I have been looking for a way to transition out without burning bridges.
