Sussex Weekly: It's Amazing What People Will Do When Offered A Large Amount Of Money (12/12/2022)

One of the massive, well known, global companies that I previously worked at had a Women in Business group. But they put the dirtiest woman in charge who turned it into a secret club, invite only and it became a group where she recruited only woman who would act as Rottweilers to others or women she could control. The company had no oversight, never checked who attended, what meetings they had, whether it was advertised to all, could be attended by any women in the company. The company had ticked a box and moved on. It was quite an eye opener to me how this one women was able to wield such control to hold other women back and bully so widely, openly and pointlessly but only women. She’d worked there her entire career, straight out of uni and was openly counting down the years to early retirement. She was such an unhappy person too and seemed to hate her job and all her colleagues and have totally forgotten why she bothered coming to work anymore. I had to work peripherally with her for a few years and I do think a few of my male bosses did actually know what she did because I feel like they proactively protected me, but it wasn’t something stoppable. But I was very lucky to get that protection. A lot of the women there just wanted a decent part time job while raising their kids and weren’t interesting in being the next CEO but they still were in the firing line.
