i think the problem is the punchline comes first, and then it leaves us with this sad thought hanging in the air, and nothing to clear it out.

Joan Cornella makes the kind of dark humour i can laugh at, because the scenarios are often absurd, or abstract, and i think that allows the reader to distance their emotions from the tragic things going on. this scene looks so real visually, nothing exaggerated or unbelievable, just a very relatable scene of a father and son. the dad's struggles are very relatable and it makes people think of their own situations, or those of the people they know. of course the kid's question is absurd, and i think that's intellectually funny, but not haha funny really.
