swimming & the news

This is something I think we all need to take into consideration. Because he’s right, the album was a multi year process, and at the end of the day, only he knows that those lyrics mean to him, and the time in the life that he actually wrote them in. It’s so easy to view every single metaphor under the guise of a drug induced, lonely state of mind that we assume he was in, but.. just like the rest of us, he had so many highs and lows from 2016 to 2018. Just because his lows were lower than most of us doesn’t change that. How many times have you had a good day and then come 9pm you get the urge to get fucked up sometimes?

After reading the court documents yesterday I felt melancholy because of the fact that I felt like they painted a picture of this terribly miserable idol of mine, who was just coping any way he could with drugs to combat that suffering. But after some reflection I don’t think that was the case. Just because he hit up this guy multiple times between June and September doesn’t mean he was in this horrible place anymore. If I have a dealer that I know sells blow, and I hit him up once a week for four months, going back through the text messages would seem like I had a problem. But once a week drug binges are, relatively speaking, not that bad considering Macs past.

Idk. I’d agree with what Mac says in the interview. Take the music for what it is. Everyone has their own interpretation of it. I’m choosing to paint the picture of a hopeful Mac. It’s impossible to go back and be able to know how he felt every second of every last day of his life. I don’t think a few slip ups once every couple weeks means he was horribly depressed still.
