Teachers balk at returning to school as Covid cases surge in Seattle area

Right, that would be great, but there’s no way they’re going to get that level of PPE and training anytime soon. I have family friends who work in person with high risk students and they are needing weeks to fit test even that small group for n95s. Our supply chain is still struggling to keep up with masks, even without hundreds of thousands of primary teachers burning through PPE.

I think the better approach is to focus on getting those 7-15% into the school gym and setting up distanced work stations for them to participate in online schooling. Several of the districts offer hot meals at the same time, so kids are warm, fed and logged on. Given the small numbers of kids, it’s still less of a Covid risk than full classrooms.
