Thinking about Temple, can someone give me a pros and cons list?

  1. I lived right off campus for my first three years before moving to a different part of the city in my last year.

As for, the local residents who live around campus... they're people. I know that sounds kind of obvious but it can be a mixed bag. I've met some extremely kind and friendly people. 2 of the 3 years, I had friendly neighbors who greeted me when they saw me and would maybe ask for the Phillies score that day if I were wearing a cap. I've also met people who would respond to my 'hello' or 'good morning' with a grumble or no response at all. My last neighbors were not as eager to meet their new neighbors but were never overtly rude toward me. There is definitely an interesting relationship between Temple and local residents. Just don't act as though you're superior or better than the people in the area and you'll be fine. They will (maybe) be your neighbors after all.

2.. A few of your GenEd and Intro-level classes for your major will likely be 100+ level lectures because those are often required of everyone within the major. That's only really for your freshman/sophomore class. The rest and majority of my classes as I progressed were in the 15-30 person range (usually about 20ish) in a 'normal sized' class setting so it isn't daunting. Fine Print: I can really only speak for my school/major.

.

3.. I'm a huge fan of the big 4 sports (football, baseball, hockey, and basketball) but football is my true love. College and NFL. So I relate.

Temple football is in an interesting spot. They were admitted back into the American Athletic Conference (formerly the Big East) a few years back. After years of average-to-bad years, the university is investing a lot of money and resources into becoming a football school. The team is on the rise, having just landed their best recruiting class in school history. Last season their marquee wins came against SEC school Vanderbilt, who they DESTROYED and then-to-25-ranked ECU (Young Jeezy was also in attendance for that game). Temple Football has a bright future ahead and they're playing Notre Dame at home next year in Philly. It's an exciting time to be a fan of the Owls. HOWEVER, they play at Lincoln Financial Field, where the Eagles play, so unless it's a big game, the Linc can feel empty and that can dampen the vibe.

While they're focusing on football, Temple is and has historically been a basketball school. They have the 5th most wins in NCAA Men's BB history. They're doing well this year and are on the cusp of a tournament birth right now. There is a much better student turn out for basketball games, being that the arena is right on campus.

There is also a student club for sports fans: "Wild Cherry" which gets you a free shirt, guaranteed student section seating and guaranteed tickets to basketball and football games. There's also the cherry crusaders - a student run fan group who does things like hold viewing parties and take road trips to big away games.

Sorry for the wall of text. I hope I've answered your questions effectively. Good luck in choosing your school and in your college career! (unless you go to Villanova).

As you can tell, I've come to learn a lot about the school. These are things I wish I had access to in my early career so feel free to DM other questions.
