Thoughts on 50/50 arrangements

We just got lucky with how our schedules worked out. We know a few other remarried couples. One has kids on totally opposite schedules so the kids are like ships passing in the night, so they can't form any real connections.

Another has the kids on the same schedule and they go from no-kids and life being easy to RED ALERT KIDS!!!!!! and it's an onslaught of homework and chicken fingers.

I really like ours where we have all four states of being: All the kids, her kids, my kids and no kids. It's more chaotic for us adults, but it keeps me on my toes.

The transitions get easier with age. My daughter is the oldest and I used to worry it was a problem for her......but then I saw stepkid #1 doing the same thing when she got to that same age. Then stepkid #2 repeat at the same age. They're a total of 6 years apart and such different children, but seeing them doing the same things at similar ages made me realize sometimes it's just a kid being a kid and nothing to do with me or the divorce or the blended family.
