Today is the 29th anniversary of the European Union

Was controversial then and still very controversial now. The whole refugee resettlement debate showed deep cracks in the fragile edifice of the EU.

Everything was great as long as these countries just nodded along and did what they were told. After all, the Northern European countries bullied Southern Europe successfully into submission, why not repeat the feat but wth an Eastern cast of characters this time?

But things were different and Northern Europe underestimated the grit of EE. As soon as they stood up for themselves and their interests, they were told they were evil fascists. Equality in the EU is a noble concept but it's not worth the paper its written on. Any EE country standing up for its interest - NS2 is another example - is dismissed as pain in the neck(‟Baltics just need to calm down”) or irrational (‟Poland's just a victim of its own victimhood complex”).

There is still an unspoken view of these countries as 2nd class citizens who should just be quiet and do what they're told. When they have different views - on social policies, geopolitics etc - then the unfiltered rage is very revealing.
